Properties of magnesia bricks


1. Due to the strong alkaline periclase as the main crystal of magnesium bricks, it has high density, low moisture content, high molding pressure, low apparent porosity, and high bulk density. So magnesium bricks have the characteristics of multi mineral composition, strong alkalinity, and high density.


2. Magnesium bricks are typical alkaline refractory materials with strong resistance to alkaline slag erosion.


3. The melting point of periclase is as high as 2800 ℃, so the fire resistance of magnesia bricks is also very high, usually reaching over 2000 ℃.


4. The load softening temperature of magnesia bricks is much lower than the fire resistance, about 1500 ℃.


5. Magnesium bricks have good thermal conductivity, but their thermal conductivity significantly decreases with increasing temperature, indicating good thermal conductivity and low insulation.

Classification of magnesia bricks


Magnesium bricks are generally divided into two categories: sintered magnesium bricks and chemically bonded magnesium bricks. Magnesium bricks with high purity and firing temperature are called directly bonded magnesium bricks due to the direct contact of periclase grains; Bricks made from fused magnesia are called fused magnesia bricks.


The use of magnesium bricks


Magnesium bricks are widely used in steelmaking furnace linings, ferroalloy furnaces, and mixed iron furnaces in the steel industry due to their good high-temperature performance and strong resistance to alkaline slag; Non ferrous metallurgical industrial furnaces, such as copper, lead, zinc, and tin lining; Lime kilns in the building materials industry; Glass industry regenerator grids and heat exchangers; High temperature calcination kilns, vertical kilns, and tunnel kilns in the refractory material industry.
